At GPS, we believe in a high quality of life not only for our clients, but for our clinicians as well. Our clinicians are compensated well (higher than most group practices), and on a progressive scale that rewards dedication to helping the practice thrive. Our clinicians are given autonomy to set their own hours, can see as few or as many clients per week as they choose, and are always treated with respect. One of the beautiful things about our field is the ability to model a healthy work/life balance. At GPS we accomplish this by respecting our clinicians, charging a reasonable fee for the services of our expert clinicians, and paying a majority of that fee to the clinician delivering the service.

If you have been working in community mental health for any number of months or years and feel burned out by long hours, high expectations, and low pay, all to work with clients that may not be your ideal clients, consider working with GPS and see what a difference it makes! A licensed clinician working full time as a “mental health therapist” at an average community mental health clinic in Southern California makes around $45,000-$53,000 per year (or about $25/hour). That’s with a master’s degree, thousands of hours of clinical experience, and a professional license. A GPS clinician can make the same amount working far fewer hours per week, leaving room for family, vacation, personal and spiritual growth, naps, continuing education, or spending more time working to make a higher income. You’ve spent 6-10 years in college and graduate school. Isn’t it time your income reflected all that time and money (e.g., $100,000+ in student loans) invested in becoming an expert?

Our clients often make more money as a result of their work with GPS clinicians, either directly through business/career consultation, or indirectly through improved boundaries, self-confidence, self-empowerment, assertiveness, and healthier relationship circumstances in which work and investing take place. The services our clinicians provide are valuable in many ways, and we want our clinicians to know that their impact is recognized and appreciated.

We have high expectations for our therapists with regard to integrity, timeliness, responsibility, clinical effectiveness, and dedication to ensuring the best possible client experience with any clinical or consultation services provided. GPS supports and assists clinicians with securing opportunities to enhance clinician visibility, such as speaking at conferences, schools, medical facilities, and religious organizations.

Clinicians should be:

  • Licensed for at least six (6) months in their respective discipline (Licensed Psychologists, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, and Licensed Clinical Social Workers)

  • Open to working with clients from GPS-affiliated payors (insurance, EAP, etc.)

  • Independently/individually insured by a professional liability insurance carrier (CPH, The Trust, etc.)

  • Willing to market, promote, and network on social media and in-person, for the purpose of enhancing the professional visibility of themselves and GPS, as well as to directly connect with potential referral sources
